HOW TO CROSS/ LAY THE FIBER OPTIC LONG DISTANCE CABLE IN THE SWAMP AREAS IN AFRICA

HELLO

DEAR ALL.

I AM INVITING YOU ALL TO DISCUSS THE SUBJECT ISSUE PLEASE. AS THE SWAMP AREA CONTAINS THE SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS OTHER THAN THE UNDER-GROUND, UNDER THE SEA, OVERHEAD CABLE INSTALLATION. SPECIALLY IN UGANDA WHERE THERE ARE MORE THAT 1 KM LONG SWAMPS ARE FOUND ALONG THE MAIN ROADS AND THERE IS NO STANDARDIZED AND SPECIFIC METHODOLOGY HAS EMERGED SO FAR.

THANKS YOU ALL

Dear Minhaj,
AOA,
Its nice to see that u hav a gr8 experience in the field of fiber optics. According to ur related background, its quite difficult to suggest u any thing to handle the swamp problem but i try my best. First of all u should explain the cable type (i.e buriel, aerial or duct), the second thing is the cable's weight per km, the third thing is the cable's tesile strength defined by the manufacturer (because this wil matter when u suspend or pull the cable over the longer distance) the fourth thing is the culture of the community where you r going to execute the task (wether the local population respect to the gov. or any company assets or not). I have a good experience of cable handling but i never dealt with the certain situation like swamp but it could be handled with the experience discussion. I hope u wil response and keep continue the discussion.

Thanx with best regards.

Without physically serve it is very difficult to discuss with this specific issue. But Mr. Muhammad Sajid added some good points here to go through for this solutions.

Hi Minhaj,

You may want to look at our COD ducting product. I have a video on the main page or you can see more details at http://www.kevdar.com/COD/COD%20Overview.html
This is the strongest, water resistant and most flexible product on the market.

Best regards,

I think you have to first lay the cable in Duct and RCC/GI pipe on the ground. Add the weights at regular interval then lower it is carefully with push. I hv done the same earlier but the swampy section was only 200 mtrs.

Again it depends upon the depth and breath of the swamy area. With out knowing the actual condition in terms of strata dimensions nothing can be worked out.

The simple solution is to do the piling then lay the overhead cable on pole or bamboos.

Thanks for taking the interest. Since it is a practical question. Can you please let me know where did you executed such task where the area was 200 metere only.

For you information we are execjuting this task in East African Country Uganda for the E-government's Backbone project. We have already done this in about more than 1.5 Km area in scattered where the maximum length has been 250 to 300 meter. Since the work is done on labor intensive basis of task execution what I need was the input base of using mor technical sort of task execution. Because in the design plan the survey does not pass through all the section of the swampy area. The real facts are revealed when the implementation team land on the ground. For example I am attaching a file on the bank of a tributary of Lake Edward near to Queen Elizabeth National Park where our teams are working very near to the Land and Water Wild Life.
